Windhoek Swakopmund Namib Desert
On arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek you are met by English-speaking guide whom will assist you with detailing your itinerary and safety briefing with you and yours, plan your arrangements for lunch (for own account) and thereafter take a road transfer to the country estate where you will be overnighting on route to the wonders of the desert. The hosting country estate is located 85 km (one and a half hour) north-east of Windhoek and only 70 km from the airport in the unspoiled Otjihavero Mountains. An ideal first or last stop for international visitors, and the perfect venue for intimate meetings, team-building events or weddings.
Carl List, acquired the estate in 1937. His son, Carl Werner List, farmed the 12 000-hectare estate, developing this private and intimate world into a household name in Namibia. Today our guests are invited to enjoy the tranquillity, while marvelling at the pioneering German Settler spirit which gave birth to it all. “A paradise where the earth rises again, fertile and green, creating a protected world and a safe empire from the people“. It’s an intimate world of its own.
One which offers newly decorated and fully equipped rooms, the dining room & bar terrace, contrasting gym and sauna, and private skittle alley. These are all spaciously situated in a sprawling country garden, bordering the banks of the Swakop River, as it meanders through the estate on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. Rooms with views overlooking the swimming pools, the gardens, the courtyard or the mountains, situated in separate farm style one and two storey buildings in the large gardens.
Guests are free to soak up the ambience and enjoy doing absolutely nothing; or they can explore our activities such as hiking the mountain trails, drive along 4×4 tracks, play volleyball, tennis, table tennis, pool or outdoor chess and admire our vintage car collection.
One of the estate’s major attractions is a sundowner drive to the hilltop, where guests can enjoy a stunning 360° view over the Otjihavero Mountains and watch the sun set with sundowners in hand. They can also experience what life was like on a traditional Namibian Farming and Game Estate in years gone by, with a morning or afternoon nature-game drive through the separate 2000 hectare nature reserve, along the Swakop River. Wildlife found on the estate includes giraffe, blue and black wildebeest, oryx, kudu, hartebeest, eland, warthog, baboons and smaller antelope species such as the steenbok. The riverfront is a birder’s dream.
For groups of we have opened the historic Train Station, just 2 walking minutes from the main lodge for additional privacy and exclusivity for your groups’ interest and enjoyment.
After check-in at the estate, you will congregate in the conference hall for an orientating motivational boost from one of the estates’ famous speakers. Thereafter, assembled in the bowling hall for some play, bowling games set the tone for your group networking. After the games, you’ll board an open farm vehicle for a nature drive taking you to the hilltop for sundowners and drinks waiting just for you.
Before dinner another set of games forming various teams in chess, darts, pool and soccer slug. Your guide will collect you at the Country Estate after breakfast and transfer you to Swakopmund on route for lunch *own account* which can be pre-arranged, please advise requirements accordingly. A short drive to the sand dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis awaits the afternoon of fun in the dunes. Teams will also do quad biking and sand boarding, a variety of challenges can be developed to ensure the comraderie is enhanced and the motives for travel fulfilled, please consult with our team for your ideal corporate team build in Namibia.
The hotel is literary minutes’ walk away from the very popular Jetty and assortment of restaurants as well as other tourist attractions – yet offers total privacy once on the premises of the hotel. Each room is equipped with a flat screen TV, safe, under floor heating, fridge, as well as tea and coffee facilities and a laundry service is available for same day delivery for your convenience. Each bathroom has a hairdryer and shaving facilities and all international power points can be used.
2 nights in Swakopmund provide options and flexibility for the group to form their own groups and leisure times. Lunches are left for own account so that flexibility is guaranteed and that meal requirements can be altered as required.
Following your final breakfast in Swakopmund, your guide will transfer you to Marine Dune for the Morning Marine Cruise commencing at 09h00. On the ocean waves in a vessel of your choice (speedboat or catamaran) opportunities abound to observe sea creatures and landmarks alike. Cape fur seals are very curious creatures, dolphins too like to swim alongside your craft and overhead pelicans often swoop to give you a quick gander.
Cruising past the going’s on of Walvis Bay Harbour, spare a thought for the oyster farmers. This delightful sea food is known across the world for its superb taste, brought about by the nutrient rich Benguela current running along the Namibian coastline. Ahead lies Pelican Point and the iconic black and white lighthouse, your drop off point with a scheduled arrival time of 11h30 for another outing to delight.
Sandwich Harbour Excursion:
A 4×4 and guide will be waiting to transfer you on your journey to Sandwich Harbour, a destination of great interest but with few visitors. ‘Sandwich’ was the first vessel to set anchor in the harbour in 1790. Today the harbour attracts mainly sightseers and local fishermen
Enjoy the stunning desert and ocean scenery of Walvis Bay Lagoon, the saltpans and the Kuiseb River Delta on your drive where one is able to observe large flocks of flamingo and pelicans, as well as a decent variety of waders and terns. Weather and tidal behaviour permitting, your guide will also take you to the picturesque Sandwich Harbour Lagoon, either by vehicle or on foot. Photographic opportunities abound from known lookout points and with your guides ample knowledge who could have guessed birding could be such an adventure! Expect to return to Walvis Bay by 16h30. Lunch, drinks and permits are included in today’s trip.
We then overnight in Swakopmund on Dinner Bed & breakfast basis before checking out and collection from our guide for the transfer onward to the Namib Desert. Complementing the magnificence of a red sand sea, the lodge lies at the foot of ancient fossilised dunes. Make some space for wonder as a sunset or early morning drive explore the sand masterpiece in a breath-taking experience. Sharing moments atop the ridge, the sand begins to glow deep rich sienna, a view of utter beauty is illuminated further in gold. Extending from the soft dunes around you to the green ribbon of riverine trees in the distance, the purple-blue mountains, even Tolkien would be taken aback – and inspired. Such fantastical scenery imbued with its own special character.
Enjoy the relaxed and friendly ambience while cooling off at the pool, watching gemsbok arrive at the waterhole to drink, walking the trails into the dunes or dining in the cosy restaurant. Down-to-earth and homely, it is a place to put up feet, explore, discover and love.
For the ultimate desert experience, spend a night in the dunes. An intimate adventure, the slick and simple hideaway stands alone deep in the Namib Desert. The spacious wooden bungalows have beds with wheels to enable guests to sleep out under the stars and a dining area with a large wooden deck affords the best views of the landscape. Before dinner, you will have further team games conducted in the main building. A comfortable sojourn is guaranteed by en-suite rooms complete with air conditioning. A restaurant and bar, an inviting terrace with views of the fossilised dunes and two swimming pools beckon you to linger and really relax. Oryx antelope and springbok make frequent appearances at this illuminated watering place where we again overnight experiencing the desert in this fabulous adventure.
Departing after breakfast your guide will transfer you for a full day, desert of Sossusvlei and Sesriem areas ensuring that before sunset we enjoy a sundowner drive to the Petrified dunes.
